Menstruation is a time of emotional upheaval for many. It is also a period of physical ailments that come with anger and sadness. In those days girls especially school girls were well aware of all their troubles.
Keeping in view the mental and physical difficulties faced by female students during menstruation, necessary steps will be taken to implement menstruation in all universities. The SFI-led student body of the Kochi University of Science and Technology will make the menstruation model statewide.
This is the first time in Kerala that an educational center is providing menstruation to students. The student body for taking this initiative and the Cusat authorities for taking the decision are to be commended.
It is heartening to see student leadership and university leadership working together to create a proper continuum of women empowerment initiatives initiated by the Higher Education Department.
75 percent attendance of students is required for sitting in each semester. But the Kochi University of Science and Technology has come up with an amendment to allow female students to appear for the exam even if they have 73 per cent attendance, keeping in mind their menstrual cycle.
Women students will get relief if this decision is implemented in all universities. A petition requesting such has been submitted by the state leadership of SFI. Let the girls relax during the difficult days of menstruation.
